Non-Surgical Gum Therapy in Pickering

Non-surgical gum therapy consists of periodontal treatments to keep your gums healthy and free from infections. Gum disease can appear with little warning, and it can exist without symptoms. Unfortunately, it can also be a serious condition with potential impacts on your oral and general health. Here are some of the procedures we use to keep your gums healthy.

Frenectomy

Frenectomy is the treatment for the condition known as “tongue-tied,” where the connective tissue that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth is too tight. We treat the condition by reducing or removing the tissue and relieving the tension.

Scaling and Root Planing

If we can’t remove plaque and tartar through regular oral hygiene, we may recommend the use of scaling and root planing. This treatment begins with the removal of plaque and tartar above the gum line using special tools. Root planing treatment follows - this treatment improves the condition of the tooth root’s surface so the gums will reattach to the teeth.

Extractions

Sometimes a tooth can’t be saved, and it will need to be extracted to protect the gums and other teeth. Extractions can also be performed as part of orthodontic or denture treatment. If a tooth is extracted because it is damaged or infected, we will recommend a replacement such as a bridge or dental implant.

The best way to prevent gum infections and disease is to come for regular dental examinations and cleaning. Call us today to make an appointment.
